3. An ovarian cyst is any fluid-filled sac within the ovary. Often they cause no symptoms. #DoitYourself

5. When there are multiple cysts it is called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).

6. This syndrome can cause infertility. The reason some individuals don’t like to take birth control pills for treatment. #DoitYourself

7. Ovarian cyst occurs If a follicle doesn’t release an egg. #DoitYourself

8. The follicle then grows bigger and develops into a follicle cyst. #DoitYourself

9. Symptoms of ovarian cysts are: painful bowel movements and pelvic pain before or during the menstrual cycle. #DoitYourself

10. Painful intercourse, pain in the lower back or thighs. #DoitYourself

11. Breast tenderness, nausea, Abdominal bloating or swelling and vomiting. #DoitYourself

12. Some people may have severe or sharp pelvic pain. #DoitYourself

13. Fever, faintness or dizziness, and rapid breathing. #DoitYourself

14. Ovarian cyst may rupture cyst or twisted which is called an ovarian torsion. #DoitYourself

15. Most ovarian cysts are benign and naturally go away on their own without treatment. #DoitYourself

16. It can be diagnosed using an ultrasound scan or CT/MRI. #DoitYourself

17. Ovarian cysts can be treated using birth control pills. #DoitYourself

18. It may also be treated with laparoscopic surgery. This is the use of fibre optic instruments to perform a surgery. #DoitYourself

19. It could also also be treated with an open surgery. #DoitYourself

20. Ovarian cysts can’t be prevented. However, routine gynecologic examinations can detect ovarian cysts early. #DoitYourself

21. Going to your Doctor is very important as this will make him/her differentiate if it is a cancer or not. #DoitYourself
